Calabasas is one of the most popular and exclusive residential areas in Los Angeles County.
A peaceful and friendly residential neighborhood in an exclusive atmosphere
Calabasas, Spanish for “squash,” is one of the most popular and exclusive residential areas in Los Angeles County. Home to approximately 23,000 residents, the low population and close-knit community atmosphere make Calabasas a peaceful city for residents who seek privacy while still being close to everything the metropolis of Los Angeles has to offer. Situated approximately 30 miles northwest of Los Angeles, Calabasas is home to many celebrities. However, even those who are not famous still live in luxury here.
Calabasas offers many great amenities to its residents, including amazing parks and gardens among the most gorgeous real estate properties. Community events occur throughout the year, and the landscaped avenues and wide sidewalks make Calabasas a great place to explore on foot. Also, the Las Virgenes Unified School District has an excellent reputation and serves fifteen different schools.
Calabasas is predominantly a residential neighborhood. Although it is home to many celebrities and impressive real estate, Calabasas focuses on creating a cohesive, friendly community. Home to a great lake, amazing trails, and access to the Pacific Ocean, Calabasas is an excellent place for residents of all ages. Those who live in Calabasas take advantage of the beautiful surroundings to stay healthy by running, biking, and walking. Also, many of the individual neighborhoods in Calabasas are gated communities for additional privacy.
Calabasas is home to many must-visit restaurants. Toscanova offers Italian cuisine, a great wine selection, and hand-crafted cocktails. Popular dishes include salmone alla griglia, pollo al mattone, and minestrone. King’s Fish House is another superb restaurant here. The menu changes often, but popular menu items include Idaho rainbow trout amandine, hazelnut-crusted Bainbridge island salmon, and macadamia nut wild Alaskan halibut.
After dinner, explore the great retail shops at the Commons at Calabasas and Parkway Calabasas Shopping Center. After some retail therapy, head to Marmalade Cafe for breakfast dishes and West Coast cuisine, from berry & banana smothered French toast to smoked salmon lox and bagel plate with California Hass avocado toast.
While Calabasas is close to the hustle and bustle of downtown Los Angeles, the city itself offers many exciting things for residents to do. At the Leonis Adobe Museum of Calabasas Creek Park, visitors experience the life and history of a California ranch. Here, guests can visit the Plummer House, view Percheron horses, and meander through the antique architectural designs of the gardens.
Malibu Creek State Park contains approximately 8,000 acres of land to explore and incredible trails with gorgeous ocean and mountain vistas. Another great park near Calabasas is the King Gillette Ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains, where visitors have no shortage of biking, hiking, camping, and photography opportunities. Another must-see spot in the Santa Monica Mountains is the Calabasas Stairs, a 375-step workout off the Anza Loop Trail.
Families will also enjoy Grape Arbor Park, with fun amenities like baseball and basketball, barbecue and picnic areas, and a playground. For social event planning, the Mountains Recreation & Conservation Authority is the go-to venue for upscale banquets, dreamlike weddings, and more.
